Audio Fidelity To Release Legendary Santana Live Album "Lotus" 2-CD On Limited Edition Hybrid SACD

“...one of the greatest live albums ever recorded and one of the supreme achievements in guitar playing.”

Camarillo, CA – Marshall Blonstein's Audio Fidelity will be releasing Santana's critically acclaimed live album Lotus on limited edition hybrid SACD. Lotus is a 1974 live album by Santana, recorded at the Osaka Koseinenkin Hall, Osaka, Japan in 1973. It was originally released in 1974 as a triple vinyl LP in Japan only. The first U.S. release was in 1991 as a 2-CD set. It features the “New Santana Band” and combines that group's jazz and spiritual influences. Some of the band's biggest hits are performed, such as “Black Magic Woman” and “Oye Como Va,” but it is the extended, intense instrumentals that are the order of the day such as the breathtaking “Incident at Neshabur,” “Every Step of the Way,” and “Toussaint L'Overture.”

Carlos' superpowered guitar is mesmerizing, the entire atmosphere is otherworldly, beautiful, modern jazzy and most of all, electrifying. His guitar tone is perfect, each solo has a central rhythmic and melodic structure that was used to express in a moment what can never be repeated. The greatness of Lotus is its ability to take all of Carlos' beautiful melodies and expand them each into a whole new creation.

Santana fans know there are “several different Santanas.” This was the MILES Santana, the COLTRANE Santana. This is intense and awe-inspiring music played with so much mind-numbing passion. Carlos' guitar speaks notes on this recording that are nothing short of extraordinary. He manages to imbue a vibration that cuts right through your soul. Even on the familiar hits, the jazz fusion makes its way into the notes and Carlos delivers a new message. This was the top of Santana's spiritual-fusion era. Lotus is the Live Santana album that gives other Live albums a bad name. Spectacular, breathtaking, emotional, spiritual...and it rocks!

New Age/Contemporary Instrumental Review: Erik Scott-In The Company of Clouds

Release Date: November 1, 2016
Label: Independent
I covered Erik Scott’s Spirits two years ago and I was very impressed with it. Anyone with the experience of Scott can accomplish some breathtaking jaw dropping sounds. And it all starts with his bass.

After a long period of illness and his eventual recovery he found the true meaning of faith and resiliency. His music has that kind of warmth and resilience as well. In The Company of Clouds gives you a hint what this music is all about.

The title of the first track puts it into perspective if you did not know what he went through on a physical, spiritual and emotional level. “Nine Lives” squeezes out as much emotion and god given talent the man has. He makes his bass an all purpose tool to create ambient and contemporary instrumental music. In other words, new age with some spice to keep it sharp and focused. The track serves as an introduction to what is coming next and it certainly warmed my soul. It is significant because of the title and meaning it holds for the artist but the music is poignant as well.

“Seven Veils” is another incredible track. I featured it on Rate The Tracks. Erik’s bass is hypnotic and Jaco-like. Yes this man is one of the very best bass players you will ever have the pleasure to hear. The spiritual connotations are evident by the track name. Once the masterful Scott takes the bass and becomes one with the music he begins transferring his heart and soul into the sounds he creates.

“Women of Avalon” (the longest track coming in at 5:45) is another stroke from the master on the canvas of your life. With the great Steve Hunter on guitar and Scott leading the way with his finely tuned instrument, it is an unbeatable combination of talents. When I say tuned in I mean more than just a guitar tuning, I mean dialed in, laser focused and purposeful use of his chosen instrument.

So three tracks in and I am feeling as light as a feather, my energy level rises and my faith in the process of life is once again restored. There should be a genre called contemporary restoration music. As the music continues it does not waiver for a millisecond, it just keeps offering you more tastefully well done instrumentation. The effect is like the high tide of an ocean pulling you out and you are willing to go along for the ride. The tracks are dissimilar and that is what keeps you tuned in to all the wonderful sounds and feeling this fine release can offer.

You it did again Erik, you are a star among stars, your light will never dim it will just keep getting brighter with each successive release. Perhaps now that he is back full strength we can look forward to another album next year, I hope so because In The Company of Clouds was another chance for me to get to know the artist via the music. This is a superb rendering of contemporary instrumental music.

Nik Turner, Co-Founder Of Space Rock Legends HAWKWIND, Launches A Full-Scale, Coast-To-Coast US Tour!

Los Angeles, CA - Fresh off a whirlwind tour through Europe and Japan, Nik Turner, the inexhaustible saxophone and flute-playing co-founder of space rock legends Hawkwind, will return for another US tour accompanied by up-and-coming kraut/prog rock band Hedersleben. Following what has been widely regarded as the most ambitious album of his career, one that MOJO called “a sprawling but polished album,” Space Fusion Odyssey, Turner continues his astonishing career rebirth with a newly reinvigorated sense of musical creativity and sonic exploration.

Frequently called “The Spirit Of Hawkwind,” Turner was a major creative force during that group’s most critically acclaimed and successful period, 1969-1976. His outlandish costumes, improvised sax and flute playing, and general wild man persona became iconic representations of the band, and we would go on to pen some of their most popular songs including “Brainstorm” and “Master of the Universe.” After leaving Hawkwind, Turner used his newfound freedom to travel to Egypt, where he soaked up the history and culture, and also made a recording of his flute music in the King’s Chamber of the Great Pyramid of Cheops. In 1985, Turner relocated to the western side of Wales, where he set up a new age community in a fairly rural, isolated area. He has continued to release new music including 2013’s Space Gypsy and 2015’s Space Fusion Odyssey. A brand new track from his forthcoming studio album premieres on a special 6CD box set called Space Rock: An Interstellar Traveler’s Guide. This incredible collection features a diverse sampling of space rock artists young and old including Hawkwind, Amon Düül II, Ozric Tentacles, Gong, Can, Earthling Society, and Hedersleben along with a whole host of others!

Alice Cooper Group Drum Legend Neal Smith Stars In New Movie “Desolation Angels/Rise of the BOAS”

Rock Legend Neal Smith Stars as Russian Mob Boss Yury Streinkov!

Westport, CT - “Desolation Angels” is the theme song written, arranged and orchestrated by Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Drummer and founding member of the original Alice Cooper group, Neal Smith, for the movie “Desolation Angels/Rise of the BOAS”. Neal also stars in the lead role as the ruthless Russian mob boss, Yury Streinkov.

“Desolation Angels/Rise of the BOAS”, is the movie that will start WWIII with Russia!

Watch the movie trailer here:

Watch Neal Smith's video for the song “Desolation Angels” here:

Says Neal, “The movie I star in and have been work on with Jayson Byrd, photographer turned movie maker, is finally complete after three years. I play the role of Yury Streinkov, brutal head of the Russian mob in the movie.”

Jayson Byrd, a photographer who has shot everyone from Paul Newman to Bob Dylan to Edith Stapleton and Morris Carnovsky, has completed this full-length feature film in Fairfield County with no budget, an incredible achievement. Neal Smith is among the 40-plus actors in the film.

“Desolation Angels/Rise of the BOAS” is a movie based on the morality issues raised in classical Greek mythology. The question continues to haunt man: Are we able to change our fate or is life predestined by the gods. The film was shot at more than 30 locations in Fairfield County Connecticut and environs.

In the film a group of mercenaries are hired by a covert government agency to disrupt the relationship between the Russian mob and the Mexican drug cartels. The movie is old style B&W and is two hours in length.

Melodic Prog Trio The Raptor Trail To Release New Concept Album "Devil on an Indian"

Brevard, NC – Hot on the heels of their critically acclaimed release “New World”, melodic prog trio The Raptor Trail will be releasing their third album on October 28, 2016! “Devil on an Indian” is a concept album dealing with the internal spiritual warfare that stems from a young man coming to grips with his Native American Indian heritage after being raised in 21st century white Christian morality. A near life ending motorcycle accident in the desert continues a mystical, poetic, and spiritual journey of self awareness and understanding, concluding that the heart of man is inherently evil. Set to 10 songs in three movements that seamlessly segue from one song to another, ending with the apocalyptic demise of the world.

Says guitarist Matt Mayes, “I think I have made 17 albums now in my career. They all have kind of felt like near misses. 'Devil On An Indian' is the best one yet. To get the music and lyrics to melodically and conceptually move together for an hour and 3 minutes, through ten tracks, without becoming banal twaddle or bohemic noodling was a challenge. That said, I think the result came out pretty good and I'm glad we finally made this record. It has been simmering for decades.”

The Raptor Trail has been slowly and quietly plotting its course over the last 25 years. Founding members John Meyer and Matthew Mayes had been kicking around the idea of recording something together for decades. Finally in 2014, the planets aligned and the idea actually transcended into a studio recording project which later came to be called The Raptor Trail. The Raptor Trail was actually the first song that Meyer and Mayes wrote together for the project, and it snowballed from there, with “Gravity x Ten” following, and then ten more songs over the course of the next year. The self titled first album, “The Raptor Trail,” was released in May, 2015.

Considering the musical backgrounds of Meyer and Mayes, one might not think the styles would mesh. Meyer coming from a harder edged, heavier guitar style; highlighted by the fact that he tunes his guitar in “D.” And, Mayes coming from more of a progressive bluegrass, jamrock background; highlighted by an instrument called a Guijo (Half Strat, Half Banjo, tuned in open G) But in reality, quite the opposite occurred. Not only did the styles mesh, but their melodic interplay and vast, yet different, musical influences pushed one another out of their respective comfort zones. The result was the creation of some of the most prolific, diverse, and conviction fused progressive rock music ever heard.

Before the project could be completed however, there was needed one addition. Gene Bass, long time musical companion with Meyer and Mayes, was brought on to play all drums and percussion. Gene Bass and John Meyer grew up together in Macon, GA, playing in a number of bands together starting back in 1980. Adding to this storied history is the fact that Mayes and Bass played together for 12 years in pioneer Jamrock band Jupiter Coyote which went on to sell well over half a million records. Adding yet more history to the story is the fact that Meyer and Mayes were roommates back in those days and Meyer was actually the first sound man in that band. Meyer is also the person that came up with the name Jupiter Coyote.

So the evolving path that has lead to The Raptor Trail has taken many turns and twists over the years. But, it has somehow reunited a great and long lasting friendship between three individuals who share a unique musical chemistry and history. The music has largely been recorded in each member's home studio. Then, simply passing the files back and forth over the internet and ultimately back to Meyer who has been the mastermind behind the production and mixing. The self titled album which was released in May 2015 received a warm reception from die-hard Jupiter Coyote fans, as well as many publications from the Progressive rock side of the scale.

The band released their sophomore album "New World" to critical acclaim in Spring 2016, and unlike most of the mindless, Teflon music produced today, The Raptor Trails's music is rich and layered, somewhat galactic in feel, with razor sharp musicianship and thought provoking lyrical content.

And now, much to the excitement of music fans worldwide, The Raptor Trail is releasing their new album “Devil on an Indian”!

The Raptor Trail is:
Gene H. Bass - Drums, Percussion
Matthew B. Mayes - Vocals, Backing vocals, Acoustic & Electric Guitars, Banjo, Guijo
John M. Meyer - Acoustic and Electric Guitars, Bass, G strings, Organ, Vocals, Effects

Here's what the press have been raving about The Raptor Trail:

“Their mix of southern rock with transitory flashes of 70s prog is one classy concoction, curious and commercially minded.” - PROG magazine, UK

“The Prog genre, however, doesn’t cleanly delineate the musical environment that the band explores in this album. With influences like Rush and the Dregs, a mix of sound and melody that flirt with pop, West Coast style vocal harmonies, harmonized guitars with a Southern Rock flavor, and suspended atmospheres where Pink Floyd meets banjo rolls, the band goes beyond all duties and limitations of the Prog genre” - Axe Magazine Italy

“Imagine that the Allman Brothers Band were finally released from their alien abduction, and have returned with their minds melded with non-standard open D tunings, and wielding weapons looking like a banjo welded to a Strat'.” - Dutch Progressive Rock Page (DPRP)

“Billed as melodic prog, I can't quite escape the feeling that the only reason that tag is being used is because there isn't a neat little genre bag to drop this band into.” - Sea Of Tranquility

Boston Hard Rockers Neon Alley To Release New Video "That's How It Is"

Boston, MA - Hot on the heels of their critically acclaimed self-titled debut album, Boston rockers Neon Alley are releasing a new video “That's How It Is”!

Watch Neon Alley's “That's How It Is” video:

A Young Woman wakes on the floor, trapped in a nebulous white room. It's minimalistic and sparse but evokes the future. There's only a white cube furniture piece with a VR headset on the center. She waves her hand over the cube and holograms of the band appear behind her (in the style of Star Wars holograms). They begin to play. As the guitar lead begins, she dons the headset and is taken to various spaces in a Virtual Reality world. And in each scene she becomes a different person.

In each scene she experiences what it's like being in someone else's body through her avatar. Some bodies are interesting. Other bodies are uncomfortable. So she leaves each scene in search of a better body/persona until she finds herself in an avatar that looks just like her own body except she's clean, nicely dressed in 50’s retro style. The body fits so well that she begins to dance and rocks out, having the time of her life.

End with her back in the white room as she sits down, sweaty, and removes the VR headset. She laughs. What a blast.

Camera cuts to a WS outside of the room and we see multiple rooms, each with one person. Each person looks dejected, upset or depressed. Except for her.

Says guitarist and band leader Dave Vaccaro, “The video, like the song is about the people we cross paths with and interact with everyday. Kind, clever, smart, slow, inspiring, funny, good or bad. It's just how people are and that's never going to change. The only thing that you can control is how you react to them. Like our woman in theVR headset (played by Shannon Ashe), some of the people she becomes she likes. Others she finds interesting, and still others she can do without.

“Wouldn't it be interesting to be somebody else for a time? Who would you be if you could be someone else for a day?

“Directed by Valdimir Minuty the video is one of several interpretations of the song that the band felt best represented the idea of 'That's How It Is'. Since Vlad is an artist as well as a film maker (he does great story boards BTW) he was able to translate the feel of the song in a very basic way that worked quite well given the limited resources we had available to us.

One thing we didn't want was a typical performance video of the band playing in some dilapidated industrial building. We really like how the video turned out, especially the sci-fi vibe of it. It's different.”

The live footage was shot all in one day at a studio/sound stage in Allston, MA called Red Sky Studio with post production taking another few weeks for edits and revisions.

NEON Alley is:
David Vaccaro – Lead vocals, guitars, keyboards
Mike McDonald – Bass, vocals
Scott Marion – Drums & percussion

BACKGROUND: David Vaccaro's story in music has a rare upward sweep. Vaccaro has journeyed from hardscrabble Boston club dates to the 90's music scene of Los Angeles and creative collaborations with some of melodic rock's platinum selling vocalists. With the self-titled debut album of his new band Neon Alley (out on DMV Music), Vaccaro revisits that visceral soulfulness of his early days. This collection of originals including a cleverly re-imagined cover is perfectly crafted for sweat-soaked live performances.

And Neon Alley has been doing just that, sweat-soaked live performances in clubs in and around Central Massachusetts, working their live show and earning a reputation as one of the best live bands in the area.

Here's what's being said about Neon Alley's debut album:

“...David carries a talent for carrying a tune, and there are plenty of those reverberating in hummable hard rock fashion. Highlights are carved out in the form of 'That's How It Is', a catchy rock anthem and the dreamy echoes of 'I Only Want to Be With You'. The cover of 'Jailhouse Rock' is another favorite; a refreshing reworking of the classic...” - Daniel Pavlica, therocktologist.com

“This album chock full of guitar-driven modern classic rockers kicks off in fine style with the thunderous 'That's How It Is', and backs it up with the more melodic 'All I Want', before that aforementioned cover, a rather unexpectedly ballsy 'Jailhouse Rock'. Wow, what a brilliant rendition these boys bring to the fore here, which they follow up with the drum-led 'I Only Want To Be With You'.” - Exclusive Magazine

“Neon Alley, It is loud, it is brash, it is exactly what Classic Rock should be.” - Simon Barrett, Blog Talk Radio

“NEON ALLEY: A solid dose of arena rock in search of an arena, this power trio delivers the kind of classic headbang that will speak for the generation throughout the generations. For teens that go to music festivals where it’s about rocking out instead of seeing and being seen, it’s like the 80s and 90s never left. Hot stuff that raging hormones will totally understand.”  - midwestrecord.com

“Grab a copy of this album, put it into your car, roll the windows down and crank it up while it’s still warm out and cruise to your heart’s content.” -  Altered Frequencies.com

“The new eight-song release begins with the guitar-riff driving rhythm of "That's How It Is" which will get the blood pumping.”  - JP's MusicBlog.com

Audio Fidelity To Release Two Jazz-Fusion Classics on Hybrid SACD By Weather Report and Return To Forever

Camarillo, CA - Marshall Blonstein's Audio Fidelity will be releasing Weather Report, “Tale Spinnin'” and Return to Forever, “Musicmagic” on Hybrid SACD. Both recordings are considered essentials from the jazz fusion era of the mid-'70s.

Recorded in early 1975, “Tale Spinnin'”, Weather Report's fifth studio album is filled with sunny textures of Latin and African flavors. The album stands with anything recorded during the period for the range of fresh, intriguing originals by the band's co-founders and principle composers, the keyboardist Joe Zawinul and the saxophonist Wayne Shorter.

Zawinul's pioneering interest in world music is in full evidence with the exotic percussion, wordless vocals, sandy sound effects and Middle Eastern and North African musical spices. His synthesizer sophistication is growing along with the available technology of the day. Wayne Shorter's work on soprano sax is more animated than on their previous albums and Alphonso Johnson puts his melodic bass more to the fore.

“Musicmagic” is Return to Forever's final studio album and one of the best jazz recordings released in the fusion genre. The album contains the final line-up of the band with only founders Chick Corea and Stanley Clarke returning from the earlier recordings. This 1977 release was the first Return to Forever album in five years to contain vocals, performed here by Gayle Moran and Stanley Clarke. This album also marked the return of original member Joe Farrell on saxophone and flute, along with several new members making up a killer five-piece horn section.

The sound is remarkably more orchestral than anything the group had previously done, a cross between fusion, jazz vocals, big band and grassroots accoustic jazz. Musicmagic celebrates the pure joy of music.

Both releases are mastered by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio and the SACD Authoring was done by Stephen Marsh at Marsh Mastering.

The Pink Fairies To Release First New Album "Naked Radio" In 3 Decades!

London - The legendary Pink Fairies will be releasing their new album titled “Naked Radio” on Gonzo Multimedia. It is the first studio recording by this line up of the band since “Kill Em and Eat Em” in 1987. Fronted by Andy Colquhoun (The Deviants), the band reformed in 2013 and played a number of successful UK shows through 2014 and 2015.

Says drummer Russell Hunter, “It's over 45 years since the first studio album and nearly 30 since the last - The passage of these years is inevitably etched to some extent on all these songs, some much deeper than others. But in the final analysis, they’re all some facet of The Pink Fairies.”

The Pink Fairies are an English rock band initially active in the London (Ladbroke Grove) underground and psychedelic scene of the early 1970's. They promoted free music, drug taking and anarchy and often performed impromptu gigs and other agitprop stunts, such as playing for free outside the gates at the Bath and Isle of Wight pop festivals in 1970, as well as appearing at Phun City, the first Glastonbury and many other free festivals including Windsor and Trentishoe.

After various line-ups through the years, now fronted by Andy Colquhoun (The Deviants), the band reformed in 2013 and played a number of successful UK shows through 2014 and 2015! And now much to the excitement of Pink Fairies fans worldwide, the new album 'Naked Radio' is scheduled for pre-order on October 14, 2016.

The Pink Fairies are:
Andy Colquhoun guitar and vocals
Russell Hunter drums and vocals
Sandy Sanderson bass and vocals
George Butler drums
Jaki Windmill djembe, keyboards and vocals

Texas Bluesman REVEREND KM WILLIAMS Proves That He’s The Real Deal On A Brand New Album!

Los Angeles, CA - The Reverend KM Williams is a true blues genius and a fast rising star in old school Texas Boogie Blues, carrying on the traditions of the great Texas bluesmen such as Lightnin’ Hopkins and Blind Lemon Jefferson. Raised in Red River county of East TX, Williams played his very first guitar licks as a mere toddler sitting in the lap of the great Elmore James. From that auspicious beginning, Williams built his musical chops in church performances steeped in gospel and R&B. Though he plays several kinds of guitar, the most distinctive instrument in his arsenal is an electrified Diddley bow, a fretless one-string instrument that has its origins in African slaves who fashioned a string of bailing wire to a wood plank and a hallowed out gourd, which when played with a bottle produced the familiar sounds of a blues slide guitar. You can hear both the Diddley bow and Williams’s distinctive baritone voice on his newest album, The Real Deal Blues, set to be released on October 14 by Cleopatra Blues. Williams enthusiastically proclaims that this album is “a totally unique blues recording that is both very modern and retro at the same time. This is the most amazing CD I have ever done!”

Williams is also the subject of “The Real Deal Blues,” an extraordinary new short film. Shot by Jay Gillian in the Deep Ellum area of Dallas, a historic blues district where Blind Lemon himself used to busk, this documentary tells Williams’s story while simultaneously telling the story of Texas blues through narration as well as electrifying performances of Williams and his band members, including drummer Washboard Jackson and Blues Music Award-winning harmonicist Deacon Jeff Stone. True to the blues tradition, the stages are modest, sparse, with nary a dance choreographer, Marshal stack or pyrotechnic in sight, yet the performances are no less riveting. This is authentic blues music played with passion and purpose. As Williams himself puts it, “If you want to make money, you need to become a pop musician, not a blues musician. This music is about life and it’s about feeling and about expressing those feelings and having people digging what your doing.”

Supertramp Founding Member & King Crimson Songwriter Richard Palmer-James Releases Debut Solo Album "Takeaway" OUT NOW!

London, UK - Supertramp founding member & King Crimson songwriter Richard Palmer-James has released his debut solo album “Takeaway”! An English songwriter & guitarist, Richard is best known for having written lyrics to several songs by the progressive rock group King Crimson in the early 1970s.

Says Richard, “Having spent the last few decades writing words for other people to sing, and thus being obliged to comply with the ambitions and sensibilities of others, I wanted to present a collection of songs that are uncompromisingly my own.

“I've been trying them out in club and pub appearances as a singer/songwriter, and they seem to work, but I'm very curious to see what sort of reaction this album production, which was realised with the indispensable help of a few talented colleagues from the Munich music scene, might elicit.

“The recordings differ stylistically from most of the stuff I worked on as a hired hand - probably because I enjoy playing acoustic instruments and writing pieces which involve storytelling.”

Richard Palmer-James got his start in the music business playing in various Bournemouth bands: The Corvettes, The Palmer-James Group (formed with Alec James), Tetrad, and Ginger Man, all of which also included John Wetton on bass and vocals. He was a founding member of Supertramp; he played guitar, sang vocals and wrote the lyrics for their self-titled debut album under the name Richard Palmer and co-wrote the lyrics of the song “Goldrush”, a song written during his days in the band and finally recorded on their 2002 album “Slow Motion”.

Richard wrote lyrics for three of King Crimson's albums: “Larks' Tongues in Aspic”, “Starless and Bible Black”, and “Red”. He did not participate in any of King Crimson's recordings, but worked with John Wetton and David Cross after Robert Fripp disbanded the group in 1974.

Richard has lived in Munich since the early 1970s. He worked in Munich on the composition and production of music for films and TV until his activities as a lyricist – for such diverse acts as King Crimson, La Bionda, Mireille Mathieu and Haddaway, among others – took priority, resulting in over 400 published titles. In the 90's, however, he returned to playing guitar regularly, and with the help of the resonator guitar and mandolin began to rediscover in blues and folk music the sources of his
musical inspiration.

In 1978 Richard was visited by John Wetton and W.J. Hutcheson, who were his bandmates in Tetrad, and they recorded as “Jack-Knife” an album with the German drummer Curt Cress in 10 days called “I Wish You Would”. He also wrote the English lyrics for the Italo Disco inventors La Bionda.

In 1997 he released a CD with former bandmate John Wetton under the title “Monkey Business”, a compilation of unreleased material including some songs that were recorded for the first time in studio, like a King Crimson tune called “Doctor Diamond”. In 2015 “I Wish You Would” and “Monkey Business” were released together as a twofer and that continues to be available via this link: http://geni.us/OVtK2P

Today Richard makes his living mainly as a lyricist and performing on guitar live. In support of his new album, Richard Palmer-James will be playing showcase concerts in the UK and Germany.

Contemporary Instrumental Review: Kelly Andrew - Rendezvous

Release Date: October 28, 2016
Label: Journey Music Entertainment
Kelly Andrew is a composer, pianist and producer with an innate talent to create picturesque music without the need for vocals. His new album Rendezvous is due to release on October 28, 2016.

The opening and track “Chasing Twilight,” has very pleasing guitar lines combined with Kelly’s ivory keys. The track gets you in the right mood, rhythm and in sync with what the artist is trying accomplish through the music. I loved the way this recording opens the door to a journey of musical pleasures.

I think the value of this album is its ability to gain your undivided attention in short order. Kelly succeeds by offering something different with each successive song.  For instance, after a certain pace and mood is set with the opener it changes entirely on the following track “Hand in Hand” by using different instruments to create a worldlier feel than a contemporary instrumental could offer. Although the foundation of this music by and large is contemporary steeped in classical, the artist has the talent to add his own melodies and transitions to give it a life and energy all its own. It flows with continuity and grows as the album progresses.

As I mentioned on our featured track “Rendezvous” on Rate The Tracks, the combination of piano and sax in the track brings a nice mixture of classical, new age and jazz that will delight all kinds of music lovers. And I stand by that.  With that thought in mind the appealing and good mood of “Awake in a Dream,” had a similar effect on me. The sound is soothing and serves as some nice chill music - smooth jazz mixed in with ethereal new age piano makes for a great partnership. The title of the track alone is thought provoking and a perfect soundscape for a movie or TV special. Or it can be a soundtrack for your start of the day to focus and center or on the other side at end of the day to unwind. The music is what you make it and this kind of music lets you shape it into something just for you, it is friendly to the spirit and rectifies you like all good music should.

As the album spins along a web of intricacies are formed and you are captured into that web of calm and satisfaction. Music like this makes me grateful, at peace and recharges my supply of energy. Sometimes we all feel like a train going off the tracks, allowing circumstances or other people to push us off course. This music will keep your train on the tracks or at the very least restart the engines that got you there in the first place.

I thought the succession of tracks was interesting and made sense too in regards to the human condition otherwise known as the roller coaster of life at times. The last three tracks being the most prolific.

“Promise,” “Lonely Road” and “Hope” intersect and “Hope” closes out the album offering a positive transition from thoughts that may be clouding your consciousness and keeping you from moving forward. Promise and hope can be a lonely road without the right support and the music initiates those good feelings and thoughts to help you bring you into the light.

Kelly Andrew has taken the canvas of human emotion and painted a picture that turns into a Rembrandt of musical interpretation that you will want to experience more than once. Set up your Rendezvous with Kelly as soon as you can.

Blues Rock Review: Foghat-Under The Influence

Release Date: June 24, 2016
Label: Foghat Records

Foghat is one of those bands that I have a history with. I feel a lot of excitement and anticipation when they are getting ready to release some new material. I go back to the early days of the 70s when I discovered them in Don Kirschner’s Rock Concert. I distinctly remember Lonesome Dave singing “Honey Hush.”

The first time I heard Under The Influence I was immediately impressed with their spot on combination of traditional blues combined with hard driving rock. There are many examples of that process they have down so well on this album.

The lead off and title track kicks the door open (or should I say kegs filled with vinyl) in a way only Foghat can. Working in their fifth decade of making great music, Foghat still has the engines running full steam ahead and the midnight oil burning.

“Ghost” is the first real killer track after the boys tear it up on the first two tracks and warm up your seat. One of the trademarks of this band is the slide guitar and this one track cements that expertise and fiery sound. The combination of blues and rock, the thumping bass and drums and stinging lead lines and their blistering guitars sound like a blazing fire of music. Bryan Bassett and special guests like Scott Holt and Kim Simmonds make for a real blues rock festival!

“Upside of Lonely” carries with it the irony and comedy that the blues can deliver. Besides having a foot stompin’ riff to push along the perfected made for the blues vocals of Scott Holt, it’s a real cooker and one of my favorites because it made me smile and kept the mood rocking.

When it comes to catchy riffs I think “Heart Gone Cold” hits the bullseye. This is a get down and get funky rocker with all the lyrics to boot. Foghat does not get any better than this track it’s as simple as that. All of their best is rolled into this one track. To put the icing on the cake and close out the show, they perform an updated version of their classic and most famous track “Slow Ride.” I think it was a good idea as this particular lineup has been together long enough to justify rebooting some of the more famous music. If you want to get an idea of what this band sounds like live, this jam will give you some perspective, yes indeed they can still kick some ass!

If you want to get your motor running and restore your faith in the church of rock ‘n’ roll and a some of its best known disciples (or should I say rock ‘n’ roll outlaws), then check out this excellent studio recording by Foghat titled Under The Influence. This is a very strong effort that is consistent from start to finish. There are no surprises and you get what you came for with this band, straight ahead blues rock with an attitude. There is complete understanding of what the “influence” is and that is a good thing in this case.

Smile Lonesome Dave wherever you are, I think Roger Earl and his mates have preserved the Foghat sound and it kicked up another notch on this one.

Swedish Prog Legends Kaipa DaCapo Feat. Guitar Icon Roine Stolt To Release First New Studio Album In 35 Years - "Dårskapens Monotoni"!

Sweden - Prog dreams do come true! Legendary '70s Swedish Prog ensemble Kaipa DaCapo featuring guitarist Roine Stolt will be releasing a new album “Dårskapens Monotoni” on October 10th on Foxtrot Records!

In the mid 70's the band Kaipa was one of the main acts on the Swedish music scene, alongside groups like Kebnekaise, Samla Mammas Manna, Hoola Bandoola, Bo Hansson, Made in Sweden. Four young men devoted all their time  to the band Kaipa, with regular touring and recordings between the years 1974-1978. Kaipa did many shows, over 100 each year and many live broadcasts on national radio and television. They recorded 3 albums for the DECCA label and were often compared to international contemporary giants of the genre, like GenesisYESPink Floyd and Focus.

Three of the original members have now re-united and play the music from the most popular albums from their 1970's catalogue, now together with two new younger members - trying to be faithful to the vibe and  sound and 70's style. Ingemar BergmanTomas Eriksson and Roine Stolt carry the  torch forward from the 70's - Roine, perhaps the most well know now within progressive circles - with recent success with his own bands “Transatlantic” & “The Flower Kings” - with almost one million albums sold. Lately also as a member of Steve Hackett’s touring band  and most notably on a brand new successful collaboration with Jon Anderson of YES - “Invention of Knowledge” - released June this year to thunderous reviews. The duo are working on a follow up to that album - with possible live shows of Anderson & Stolt Orchestra in 2017.

June 2016 saw Kaipa DaCapo record brand new material for the first time in more than 35 years. This is the first full length album with new Kaipa DaCapo music from these gentlemen - recorded in a state of the art studio in a very organic and old fashion way - 5 guys playing the music together in a recording studio.
