Release Date: August 9, 2016
Label: LMB Music

When I saw that Lawrence Blatt’s latest release Longitudes & Latitudes was produced by Will Ackerman it totally made sense. Ackerman is a great acoustic guitar player that I have enjoyed over the years particularly when he was running his Windham Hill label.

Right from the outset of this album I could hear Ackerman’s influence however now he is more of an influence on the production side of the house. Tom Eaton is the engineer on the album as well, a consistent partner of Ackerman.

As stated on his website Lawrence often plays in an open tuning to create a nice rhythm then adds the other instruments. It is a very effective combination. He plays electric and acoustic guitars and synthesizer (and like any good musician has many to choose from). Many of the guests appearing on the album help to make this journey complete including Ackerman and the marvelous brass of Jeff Oster. Because of the diversity offered on the album it is clearly an instrumental foray into new age, jazz and world.

The percussive elements on the track “Ima” along with various earthy tones, switch the albums path to a worldlier flavor when prior tracks were bubbling over with a definite new age/jazz flavor and inspiration. The beauty of many of the recordings I have heard this year pay tribute to Mother Earth and that is the route Lawrence took as well on several tracks. With 15 tracks there is plenty to process and it’s a beautiful thing.

“Upon Griffy Lake” carries a gorgeous melody with the equally attractive female vocals of Noah Wilding. The lady seems to call out to you from beyond as the music lets you float to your destination via the acoustic and electric guitar lines of Lawrence. He uses a intriguing and impactful combination of acoustic and electric instruments with the young lady’s voice serving as an instrument as well. It is one my favorite tracks. So much beauty and gracefulness packed into one song is hard for the mind, body and spirit to miss.

The other component I recognized on this album is the excellent restraint exercised when needed to accentuate each instrument allowing for the best compliment to each. Each track moves from strength to strength.

“Noches de Barcelona” is full of the embodiment that is Spain and the video with the track is beautiful. It was featured on our Rate The Tracks site and is provided here as well.  We have also included a preview of the album with a video and a Soundcloud stream so you can get a good idea of what this talented artist can offer.

This is 5-star recording session that is both relaxing and exciting at the same time, not an easy task to pull off. It is all done extremely well and the tastes of genres is most appealing including the mixture of them all in one single track.

Add Longitudes & Latitudes to your list one of the very best instrumental recordings of 2016. It’s not hard to do if you appreciate new age, jazz or world or all three combined, the choice is obvious so give it a good listen!

Ian Martyn Releases The Very Moving Debut Album 'Life's An Emotional Journey'

Ian Martyn is an exciting artist who has taken a unique approach to entwining music and art, in the most perfect way.

Collaborating with artists all over the world, some artists worthy of note are Jack Vettriano (on 'Why Don't You Tell Me'), Leonid Afremov and Sera Knight (on 'You Are The One'), Laurie Hamilton, Adam Scott Miller, Delmary and (on 'I Can Feel Your Power') Daniel Eskridge (on 'Dance With Spirits'), Rassouili and Josephine Wall (on 'Déjà Vu').

A personal favourite of mine is Déjà Vu, with Rassouili and Josephine Wall... view it below:

You can view more of Rassouili's work here: http://www.rassouli.com/home.htm

And Josephine Wall here: http://www.josephinewall.co.uk/

The artwork along with the song feels very spiritual, it feels like it takes you on a journey, Ian, hopes that from his 'Emotional Journey' he can help others on theirs and help others express their feelings, for some it may be music or art and Ian is definitely bringing the two together.
Ian Martyn's unique approach to writing his music is that of writing the lyrics as a wholly meaningful and poetic piece of literature, so beautiful that the words alone just scream out for music. Ian's music aids the healing process of any kind of personal strife or bereavement and is the perfect soundtrack to finding a new directions in life.
Ian has had some difficult and emotional times to deal with losing both his precious wife and mother months apart, but he has taken this emotional time and turned it into a positive, creating music to help and aid others and support them in their time of need.

Check out the lead single off of his album ' I Can Feel Your Power' below:

The King Of The Honking Sax BIG JAY MCNEELY Returns With A Brand New Set Of Recordings!

Los Angeles, CA - Before Jimi Hendrix, before Elvis Presley, there was Big Jay McNeely honking and squealing on his saxophone, wowing audiences with a stellar, energetic live show that often found him writhing around on his back or jumping into the middle of his enthusiastic audience, all while never missing a single beat! McNeely is truly the last of a generation of blues/R&B musicians who inspired the early rock pioneers, and are still around to remind us where popular music came from. Now, McNeely has teamed with Cleopatra Records to present this special album of 5 brand new recordings plus a handful of classics from the ‘50s & ‘60s called Blowin’ Down The House - Big Jay’s Greatest & Latest. This collection will be released on the Cleopatra Blues imprint September 30 on both CD and vinyl!

Big Jay McNeely’s incredible career began in the ‘40s and saw him play with several major R&B and blues legends of the late ‘40s and early ‘50s such as Little Richard, B.B. King, Etta James and Jr. Wells. He scored his first major hit with the 1949 smash hit instrumental “Deacon’s Hop” and scored again with a R&B vocal ballad “There’s Something On Your Mind” featuring Little Sonny Warner. He pioneered the flamboyant playing style called “honking” and is widely acknowledged as one of the first musical entertainers to make showmanship an important element of the live concert experience. His music continues to be an important signifier for that early era, earning McNeely gigs at major festivals both here and abroad as well as having his music featured in the 2013 Sean Penn film Gangster Squad starring and last year’s biopic Trumbo starring Bryan Cranston. This year, Big Jay partnered with producer Jürgen Engler for a set of new recordings in his classic style such as the Motown-esque “Love Will Never Fail” and the bluesy “I’ve Been Mistreated.” These songs demonstrate that even at 89 years of age, Big Jay McNeely can still blow them all away!

Those in need of a refresher about Big Jay’s history can watch this short promotional documentary film: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whAxAIR2MD4

Catch Big Jay performing live at the Record Parlour on September 24!

Concert Review: Ace Frehley and SIMO

Ace Frehley Goes Space Truckin’ At The Colonial Theater
Opening Act SIMO Impresses Capacity Crowd
September 27, 2016
Pittsfield, MA.
                                          http://acefrehley.com

If you are Kiss fan you were at the Colonial Theater in Pittsfield Massachusetts on Tuesday night. To put it more succinctly, everyone there came to see Ace Frehley. He was the main talent in Kiss and everyone knows it, with the exception of some of his former band mates of course. This is my opinion and that of many others but as with anything else I am sure there are many people that would disagree.

Warm up bands can be a hit or miss proposition and in this case it was a shot that hit dead center for these ears and apparently the capacity audience.
The band that came on to warm things up for Ace was SIMO, named after the lead guitar player and vocalist J.D. Simo.  This is a classic power trio that included the bass player Elad Shapiro and drummer Adam Abrashoff.

Abrashoff had a minimal drum kit and what he accomplished with it was amazing. That is real talent when you take something small and make it sound so big. Shapiro is no slouch on the bass either, his fingers are a flash and he is the perfect companion to Abrashoff’s talents J.D. is a very innovative guitar player taking the nod from the blues and the psychedelic era of the 60s ala Hendrix. His voice is tremendously powerful as well.  I also heard plenty of Allman Brothers influence in their music. I could see they use vintage equipment as well to get their sound, obviously a very smart move on their behalf.

At the break I went out to meet J.D. and he confirmed the aforementioned
influences. The band hails from Nashville and they put on a great show. I also picked up their new release Let Love Show The Way on 180-gram vinyl, complete with a poster and download not to mention the retro artwork that acts as time machine (reflecting their influences).  It was priced right as well at $20.00.  I don’t think Ace could have asked for a better warm up band.

After the break the man of the hour arrived. This was going to be a great show; I could feel it in the air. Well, Ace did not disappoint.

I felt like that over energetic 17-year-old again going to see Kiss in the 70s at Springfield Civic Center. It was great to have those memories come rushing back. All you can do is smile inside when that happens. Ace has a great band to support his act and they made their way through 18 songs to rock the audience from start to finish.

Some of the highlights of the evening included the Thin Lizzy cover “Emerald,” “Parasite,” “Rock Soldiers” and an amazing version of the Kiss classic “Cold Gin,” which I thought was the best performance all night. The encore was superb as well capping off the night with “Detroit Rock City” and “Deuce.”

I grew out of Kiss many years ago but occasionally listen to the first album and Ace’s solo work. People change, get older and some tastes do change however…once a rocker always a rocker. Seeing Ace live and hearing those songs again was a great experience and reminded of why I liked the music in the first place.

Ace is an accomplished guitar man and all of those skills were on display. Even the smoking guitar was present, which I was hoping to see again. If you want a rockin’ good time the ace in the hole, no pun intended, is catching this show live.

There is something to be said about how this man has been underrated over the years and not given his due by critics and music industry folks alike. Ace Frehley gets my stamp of approval with no hesitation.

French Music Legends Magma To Perform With The Mëtalïk Orkestra At The Olympia In Paris - February 2 & 3, 2017!

Paris, France - Bands and trends might come and go, but some of it is meant to stay. Far beyond a mere jolt to the music world or a fad phenomenon, Magma imposed themselves as early as the 1970's thanks to their unconventional and cliché-free approach to music. An unparalleled music, which is as violent as it is clever. Founded by drummer and singer Christian Vander, the band quickly set itself apart from its contemporaries through heavy and ruthless polyrhythmic beats. With a wide range of contemporary musical greats at his side, Vander remains a fine mentor from the likes of Miles Davis.

Since its reunion in 1996, the band has gone on several tours, always followed by its ever-growing and loyal fan base, and attracting an increasingly young audience! The cult band celebrated its 40th anniversary with the release of two Classical influenced bright new albums in 2009 and 2012. For their 45th anniversary, Magma is back with two new opuses respectively titled "Riah Sahiltaahk" and "Slag Tanz", as well as a vinyl reissue of their whole discography. Since 2015, the band has been on a worldwide tour called "Le Tour Sans Fin". Magma's music is timeless.

At the Olympia, Magma will be supported by the Mëtalïk Orkestra, a new creation project. The ensemble will be performing selections from their extensive catalog including Emehntehtt-Ré and Slag Tanz. The orchestra is composed by 27 CMDL students (Didier Lockwood’s music school) and from the PSPBB of Paris.

Magma in concert on February 2nd and 3rd at the Olympia in Paris.

Audio Fidelity Inks Licensing Deal With Will Ackerman's West River Records

Ackerman's Grammy winning "Returning" coming on 180g vinyl for the 1st time!

Camarillo, CA - Marshall Blonstein, president of Audio Fidelity is pleased to announce an agreement with Will Ackerman and his West River Records. The agreement calls for Audio Fidelity, in conjunction with West River Records, to release the first 180g vinyl pressing of Ackerman's 2005 Grammy award winning recording, "Returning: Pieces for Guitar 1970-2004." Ackerman is universally recognized as the preeminent pioneer in the new age music movement, and the founder of Windham Hill Records.

In 2004, after years of growth and introspection, Ackerman re-recorded an album of his best-known songs. A greatest hits collection of all new performances.  The playing and recording of these New Age instrumentals are sharper now than on those original Windham Hill classics and Ackerman's most popular compositions have rarely sounded as poignant.

Blonstein felt one of the elements of working with Will Ackerman that would have great appeal to Audio Fidelity's music fans were simple words Will spoke at the time of the recording about why he wanted to make the album. "Today I'm recording in my own Imaginary Road Studios in Windham County, Vermont on utterly state of the art digital equipment. It all brings me closer to what I hear as I sit alone and play; touching the sound as it literally moves through my body as well as my ears. I guess I am trying to find a sound that lets you hear what I hear."

Will's goal was to take a series of 11 favorite songs and record them for posterity in a way that reflects the emotional nuances, precision, and maturing beauty they've picked up along the road. He includes the graceful and lushly melodic "The Bricklayer's Beautiful Daughter," the sweet and melancholy "Anne's Song", and two peaceful early gems from 1970, "Pictures" and "Barbara's Song." Some were written as celebrations ("Unconditional"), others as elegies ("The Impending Death of the Virgin Spirit"), but all are intricate snapshots of a vastly influential musical life that keeps inventive to this day.

ALBUM TRACKS:

SIDE 1
Bricklayer's Beautiful Daughter
Anne's Song
The Impending Death of the Virgin Spirit
Pictures
Hawk Circle

Side 2
Barbara's Song
Unconditional
Visiting
Processional
In a Region of Clouds

SACD Rock/Metal Review: Blue Oyster Cult-Secret Treaties

Release Date: September 9, 2016
Label: Audio Fidelity

I am big Blue Oyster Cult fan and have been since the 70s. Secret Treaties was my introduction to the band. I remember buying the LP and noticed that the cover was unusual. As it turned out the music was unlike anything I had heard before and I thought it was just as different as the cover. That was my first impression as a teenager exploring new music. As time passed I enjoyed the album more with each listen and it became and still is my all-time favorite BOC album. I cannot marginalize the importance of Agents of Fortune which comes in as a close second. That is the album that made them superstars worldwide. This is the album that laid down the foundation to build on their legacy.

Secret Treaties is and will remain a heavy metal classic. Every track is crystal clear and given new life in Marshall Blonstein’s Audio Fidelity SACD Hybrid Multichannel version. What I noticed right out of the gate was a significant boost in the prominence of the bass. Even though that happens the rest of the instruments do not take a back seat. With sound like this it is up to the listener and what they prefer to focus on, one instrument or everything happening at once. The normal process for me is to single out one significant change right away then like a quarterback with peripheral vision I flip a switch to surround sound listening. To completely enjoy the entire experience of this format I would highly recommend taking in everything that is happening. You can easily become immersed with all the sounds.

I know this album very well and that also helped in my recognition of any changes in sound and clarity. The mix is superb on this version of Secret Treaties. Every track is killer on the recording but there is one that became their epic classic along the lines of “Don’t Fear The Reaper.” “Astronomy” takes the band to new levels and it is a fantastic curtain closer. The track uses all the talents of every band member taking their sound and production to amazing heights that would lead them to recognition beyond their dreams. It starts off gentle enough then just builds and builds to an exciting climax. This is BOC’s finest hour and that one track is the icing on the cake that leaves you wanting to hit play over and over again.

“Dominance and Submission” and “Harvester of Eyes” are two other favorites of mine that are served well in the conversion of this classic recording.

This is a cannot miss bullseye to a rocker’s heart and soul. Secret Treaties was great music before it became an SACD but now more things are brought to light to give it that much more significance and value as one of the greatest rock/metal albums ever recorded.

Instrumental Meditation Review: Hennie Bekker-Beyond Dreams-Pathways to Deep Relaxtion

Release Date: July 22, 2016
Label: Abbeywood Records
Hennie Bekker has a new release titled Beyond Dreams. As explained in the most clear and concise fashion on his website…it combines rhythmic entrainment with melodies that listeners can enjoy while preparing for sleep, meditating, or practicing yoga or general self-exploration. The album contains six tracks comprising sixty minutes of continuous music that is designed to help the listener achieve a deep state of relaxation.

Here is a definition of entrainment: Entrainment in the biomusicological sense refers to the synchronization of organisms (only humans as a whole, with some particular instances of a particular animal) to an external perceived rhythm, such as human music and dance such as foot tapping..

This is not a typical review that I would present. More importantly the music itself is the main tool to reach a level of consciousness that simply cannot be attained in normal daily circumstances. I think to single out any one particular track would not make sense in this case. The six tracks offered, seamlessly flow into another in effect taking six tracks and making it one. I took in this experience a little at a time then all at once. The influences can be significant dependent on your approach.

Just taking in a track or two is relaxing however if you are looking for sustained focus the best way to enjoy this CD is to get into a comfortable quiet area and put the headphones on and some blinders and then take it all in. I found it to be a beautiful and relaxing experience having the aid of the music to remove me from the stresses and thoughts that were going on inside and around me (in a peripheral sense). The high point of stress and worry in my life found this experience to be timed just perfectly to use the tools before me.

The entrainment of your brain waves is the main objective of this music. We need to change the frequencies we are hearing to reset our thought patterns hence changing your overall attitude. It does work and I think what Hennie Bekker has presented here is a gift of music and an opportunity for healing and renewal. There is a lot of music I hear that serves this purpose but the difference here is the scientific aspect and the thought and care that went into how exactly this music will affect you.

This is definitely Beyond Dreams, it is reality, a reality that can change with a little help from Mr. Bekker. Even if you end up falling asleep while meditating there is a positive effect on your body, mind and spirit. The subliminal touches take over once you reach that plane of existence. Any way you look at it this is music that is helpful if you want to take the time to hear it and let your consciousness absorb it and process it.

Beyond Dreams is music that is multipurpose. If you just want to hear some good relaxing music it will serve the purpose, if you are looking for more, the options are there at your disposal.

4.5/5 Stars

Burnt Belief, Multifaceted Instrumental Band Feat. Porcupine Tree Member, To Release Third Installment of Trilogy: "Emergent"

Boston, MA - Inspired by the unspoken and hidden truths behind our daily reality, “Emergent” is the third in a trilogy of collaborative works by bassist Colin Edwin (Porcupine Tree/Metallic Taste of Blood/O.R.k etc) and experimental US guitarist Jon Durant, under the working name Burnt Belief.

“Emergent” builds on the duo's previous work whilst still exploring the fundamental aspects that define Burnt Belief's sonic world, namely hypnotic rhythmic elements seamlessly blended with lush guitar led soundscapes and deep ambient atmospherics. “Emergent” also showcases the intense and unpredictable, yet satisfying guitar playing from Durant, who manages to tame elemental, skittish and frequently unsettling tones, by subtly wrapping them in layers of magnetic aura. Drumming throughout is Vinny Sabatino, who brings an inventive, muscular and precise beat to complement Colin Edwin's expansive and expressive fretless and upright basses.

Says Jon Durant, “One of the things that makes Burnt Belief unique in the world of instrumental progressive rock/fusion oriented musics is that we are not at all focused on displays of chops, but rather focus on trying to tell stories through the music. The title, 'Emergent', is a reference to the theory that consciousness is an emergent property of a functioning neurosystem. Colin and I both share a fascination with how the mind works and the ways that hidden processes and background information can subtly influence more obvious conscious thoughts without our being aware of it. Similarly, throughout the album, there are very subtle background elements that have in some way directly informed the bigger picture of the compositions.”

Colin Edwin adds, “With instrumental music, any meaning is obviously less explicit than when lyrics are present, but as we neared completion of the album, it became apparent to me that the majority of pieces on 'Emergent' have elements of unresolved tension or darker moments somewhere below the surface. Something I have noticed more and more is that there are many seemingly straightforward things which, on closer inspection, turn out to be really quite complex and insoluble, and I have started thinking of the album as bringing out the feeling of suddenly seeing more than you expected and having an expanded view coming into focus. This expanded view isn't necessarily optimistic however, so for me the image of an aggressive looking insect appearing inside a pretty looking flower on the cover is perfect.”

“Emergent” amply rewards repeated listens, unveiling it's layered coalescence of antithetical components gradually, such as the discordant conversational flexes between upright bass and electronic percussion during “Until the Stars Go Out”, or the measured rhythmic resolution during “Confidence of Ignorance”. The nine and half minute title track, which unfolds gradually and explores an unhurried yet palpable tension, is a thought provoking meditation on the unstoppable changes around us all, “Emergent” is a genre defying journey for intrepid listeners keen to explore new musical territories.

Packaged in a cardboard sleeve pack with a four page booklet.

Tracklisting:
1. The Bubble Bursts (6.02)
2. More Snow (6.10)
3. The Confidence of Ignorance (5.06)
4. Emergent (9.32)
5. Until the Stars Go Out (6.26)
6. Language of Movement (7.01)
7. Turning Torso (10.11)
8. Ghosts Aquatic (6.21)

Guitarist Jon Durant brings a unique sense of texture and melody to his instrument. His distinctive “cloud guitar” soundscapes and engaging lead work have graced numerous CD recordings and film soundtracks. As executive producer of Alchemy Records, he produces recordings for internationally acclaimed artists in his small home studio. Alongside Durant's records, Alchemy has released albums by artists Michael Manring, Gary Willis, Leni Stern/Wayne Krantz and others.

Colin Edwin is best known as founder member and bassist of the internationally successful , long time progressive rock favourites Porcupine Tree. Outside of Porcupine Tree, as well as solo work and various guest spots, Colin's unique and creative bass playing have lead him to collaborate frequently with like minded and inventive musicians, including (former Henry Cow) multi - instrumentalist and reed player Geoff Leigh (as Ex-Wise Heads), fellow bassist Lorenzo Feliciati in the critically acclaimed duo Twinscapes, and most recently Endless Tapes with drummer Alessandro Pedretti. Colin is also a member of the intense and genre defying band Metallic Taste of Blood, with two albums to date on Rarenoise Records, as well as playing and recording with metal pioneers Obake. In 2015 he formed the band O.R.k. alongside King Crimson drummer Pat Mastelotto, vocalist LEF and guitarist Carmelo Pipitone from Italy’s cult “anti-folk” band Marta Sui Tubi. 2016 has so far seen Euro and South American dates with O.R.k. and also the release of Colin's adventurous collaboration (as Astarta/Edwin) with top Ukrainian female vocal duo Astarta, drawing heavily but expanding on their earthy Slavic folk roots.

Vinny Sabatino is a first call drummer from Boston, best known for his funky grooves. He's recorded and performed extensively with Jon Durant, as well as with a wide range of artists including current Santana lead vocalist Ray Greene, multiple Grammy winning producer Jeff Bhasker, film composer Michael Whalen and folk artist Porter Smith. His band, Nightshift, is the most in demand band in Boston, and features vocalist (and winner of The Voice) Jermaine Paul, Bassist Barron Browne (Jean Luc Ponty, Steve Smith, Billy Cobham).

In closing Jon has this to impart, “Most importantly, I'd like listeners to actively listen with an open mind. Good speakers or headphones are a particular plus, as there's a lot going on that's worth paying attention to. Our music can take you on a very compelling journey if you're willing to let it.”

Colin adds, “I always believe that people will find their own relationship with any piece of art, music, book or film and it's usually more powerful and meaningful that way, so any messages usually work best when they are to be uncovered and discovered rather than being upfront. If we have successfully created an all encompassing 'sound world' that takes people somewhere else when they hear it, I consider it a success. After all, doesn't music exist to express what words can't?”

Guitar Legend Steve Hillage To Release 22-Disc Career Spanning Box Set "Searching For The Spark" - October 21, 2016

London, UK - “Searching For The Spark” is a 22-disc box set celebrating the work of award-winning guitarist, Steve Hillage.

Since he began playing guitar in the early 1960s, through his time with Gong and beyond as a solo artist and one half of System 7, Steve Hillage has embodied what it means to be a truly progressive musician.

One of the most respected and beloved players arising from the Canterbury Scene, “Searching For The Spark” shines a spotlight on his solo work, chronicling his very first recording in 1969 through to 1991's self-titled debut with System 7.

In addition to gathering his eight solo albums, “Searching For The Spark” also houses seven albums of live material and no less than four discs of demos and archive recordings, many previously unreleased, direct from Steve's own personal collection.

Brimming with rare photos, press clippings, reviews and commentary from Hillage himself, the box set includes a lavish, hardback 188 page book documenting Steve’s life and times written, with Steve's full co-operation, by acknowledged Gong expert, Jonny Greene.

Musical Highlights from “Searching For The Spark” include:

* Over 40 minutes of previously unavailable material from 1972's Khan mkII line-up.

* Numerous rarities from Hillage's archive of demo recordings ranging from pre-“Fish Rising” through to post- “For To Next”.

* Unfinished tracks from the '80s and numerous demos leading up to System 7 also shed new light on Hillage's pioneering work as a composer and ambient musician.

“Searching For The Spark” is an ambitious, immensely detailed retrospective.

For existing fans, it offers unprecedented access to the guitarist's archives. For the new generations coming to Hillage through his ongoing work with System 7, it provides everything needed to explore Steve's unique musical universe. For old and new admirers alike, everything from his formative years to his mature work as an unflinchingly forward-looking musician is gathered together in one truly encyclopaedic collection.

Instrumental New Age/Classical Review: Kevin Kern-When I Remember

Release Date: September 9, 2016
Label: Kevin Kern Music
People that are given obstacles in life either give in and give up to them or use that as motivation to push forward and become successful in spite of it. Kevin Kern took the positive path and used music as his voice of expression. Kevin has poor eyesight but judging by what this album titled When I Remember sounds like, that is not a disability.

The artist is influenced by Mozart, Chopin and Bach, all the great composers. He gained his tools by learning pieces by these legendary musicians when he was young. This is what and when he remembers as the title suggests (at least that is my interpretation). The tracks mirror that foundation in the most elegant and beautiful way.

I have heard countless standalone piano recordings this year and there is something about the simplicity and peacefulness it can bring to a listener that has intrigued me and given me the desire to accept it with an open heart and mind.

One track seamlessly flows into the next offering a road to renewal. The ivory keys deliver a touch of heaven to your senses. For my listening experience it is a threefold process…sound, color and spirit. All three elements combine to ease my mind and soul and give me the comfort I seek at the end of each day.

Because of the way each song connected to the next with different variations in tempo and approach I found it very difficult to pull out a few tracks that really stood out. This is not to downplay the recording but it is quite the opposite, it is actually complimenting the artist on his consistency and approach from start to finish.

It is music like this that always seems to come to me at the right time day or night, it is a gift from the gifted. Kevin Kern is an enlightened spirit with the gift of music inside and he offers an audience his translation through his talented fingers and energy.

When I Remember is musical perfection that heals and offers so much if one can focus long enough to stop and listen. I think that practice of stopping and listening could really be helpful in everyone’s daily life in these tumultuous times we live in. Thank god for musicians transporting the universal language of love and joy through music and that is exactly what Mr. Kerns does on this recording.

The Security Project Feat. King Crimson & Peter Gabriel Members with Special Guest Happy Rhodes To Tour USA October/November 2016

Austin, TX - When Jerry Marotta or Trey Gunn has an idea often it is a good one. But when they have the same good idea at the same time it promises to be a great one. This was the case when they turned to each other and said: “Happy Rhodes. The Security Project should do something with Happy Rhodes.”

This is exactly what is happening with the fall tour. Happy Rhodes is an American singer, songwriter, instrumentalist and electronic musician with a four-octave vocal range. She has produced 11 solo recordings. Marotta and Gunn play on a several of them.

With the addition of Happy on lead vocals, The Security Project is able to dig deeper into Gabriel’s material and take it even further (imagine Kate Bush singing Gabriel tunes with The Security Project as the instrumentalists.) Marotta says “Happy brings with her the chance to play other material we have always talked about doing. Stuff from David Sylvian, Kate Bush and other gems from Trey’s and my past work, addition to Happy’s catalog. We are excited!”

This October also sees the release of “Live 2” – the follow up to their highly acclaimed Live 1. Meticulously engineered by guitarist Michael Cozzi (mastering engineer Chris Athens calls it one of the best mixed live records he has ever worked on) the reviews have been overwhelming positive.

“The Security Project expertly reimagines Peter Gabriel’s groundbreaking early output, creating an immersive experience both in performance and on its debut release Live 1. The group goes far beyond conventional tribute band territory, infusing the songs with new arrangements and elements while staying true to the spirit of the material. Gabriel enthusiasts across the board will be taken by the band’s high-octane approach full of drive, determination and energy.” – Anil Prasad, Innerviews

“The Security Project Live is a beautifully reverential and creative reinterpretation of these Peter Gabriel classics!” – Kevin Killen, engineer of Gabriel’s “So” record

“What Security Project does is accomplish what's been too long in coming: positioning Peter Gabriel's music as repertoire. It's clear that while the band treats Gabriel's music with no shortage of reverence, it's also about a more open-ended approach to the music.” – John Kelman, All About Jazz

“Somehow, like Gabriel, the Security Project’s performance strikes the right esoteric balance between the tribal groove of world music and the inscrutable logic of the best progressive rock.” – Peter Lindblad, Elmore Magazine

The Security Project sees this fall tour as a move into a new phase of the band’s life. These exquisite players – with their rich history of working with King Crimson, Shriekback and Gabriel’s original band – see bringing in a female vocalist, with the musicianship of Rhodes, as a way to step even deeper into the material and expand what the band can bring to the stage.

Trey says, “I’ve known Happy for many years – her husband, percussionist Bob Muller, was my key partner in The Trey Gunn Band. I have always hoped to find the right situation where we could work together. This is it. I’m thrilled that we can now draw on a broader base of material. Jerry and I speak almost daily about pieces we could do with her. Of course, we will be hitting Gabriel’s material solidly, but with the addition of even newer fresh twists.”

The follow up to their acclaimed first CD, “Live 2”, comes out in mid-October on 7d Media in the USA, GEP Records in Europe and WowWow in Japan.
